I,m sick of hearing you can't run this or that and you have to have this by that date [in the middle of the season]. It's just stupid greed on the part of Tobias. Everything that you ever bought for a slingshot should be legal to use on it forever, unless there are some very special circumstances [ safety would be one]. If the new shocks are truly better and I don't know if they are, we're racers most of us would buy them and that goes for tires or bodies or whatever. We don't need to be told we have to get them by a certain date so Tobias can put money in his pocket to spend on those stupid speedsters. Slingshots are a great idea and a great class and will flourish for years if Tobias's strangle hold don't kill them. When someone becomes tired of this crap and don't race or worse sells out, [that could be one more new car that don't get built] it's bad business and hurts us all including Tobias. If the new items are good many will get them as soon as they can get their hands on them.[ ie Duro tires ]and someone that doesn't have or want to spend the money can still race, add to the car count, get seat time, give the ones that do someone to beat and add a little revenue to the class which is much better than nothing. Tobais should create a great class with the rules and revenue with good business, which is creating and maintaining a great class. Where not all stupid.

If i had the money to have an entire fab shop and inventory you would bet that i'd love to start a division or maintain one like this. Overall i think most would agree that this is one of the most affordable divisions to be involved in and you will have issues here and there. With only a few employees and not alot of income coming in Tobias tries to do what he can to get the most out of an idea and keep the overhead costs low. I'm not sure if he just doesn't ask enough people before he presents an idea or if he just asks the wrong people. Although he designed the series and is responsible for keeping it afloat and items stocked i would love to see a rules committee formed so that these rules can be discussed and understood a little better. Mike F does what he can and is usually pretty short and abrupt with explanations but think about how many emails he deals with asking (and complaining) about this or that. Eventually your patience wears out i guess.

Well said, and don't get me wrong - my dad and I love racing slingers. Over the years we raced 1/4 midgets, micro stocks, and legends cars and now slingers. These things have us hooked and we are glad to have a division like this.

Great response by Hammerdown. I really like the idea of a rules committee, has anyone ever discussed this with Tobias? If not I would really like to help pursue it. Is there anyway to set-up a poll to see if this is something slingshot owners/drivers would want?

A rules committee not what you need. What's needed is for Tobias to make his rules decisions with the betterment of the class in mind and not his wallet. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's getting rich or a greedy person. I just think if he did that the money would come and the competitors and promoters would all be happier and for that fact so would he.

I want to see 20 people show up at one of his tour events with all afcos on all of their cars. Then we would see if its all about the money. If its about making the class better I guess he would have to DQ everyone because they're not legal as per the rulebook. If its all about the money he would just take your money and let you race.

Slingster. I don't think he gets the money at a tour race the track does and track tech and rules take precedence. DQ ing 20 people would not be good for anyone. Rules should be made to allow people do things not make them do them. Make new shocks legal or a new tire or create a new body so people have a little choice and can still use the old stuff. If the new stuff is a little better or looks better it won't be long till most of us have it and if it's not, why bring it out. In the case of the tires, there was no need to ban the Carlise. If people wanted to use them up and run in the back let them. The Duro had to be brought in because of the unavailability of the Carlise.

All I here anymore is people crying about every little thing Rich does. Everyone knew about the shocks last year already so you knew it was coming and as far as the bodies go it's in the rule book that a body is good for 5 years and the tires well he left you run the Carlisle's last year.

Slinger7; Whether it was 2 days or 2 years it doesn't matter. Please explain to me why something we bought in good faith from SE has to become obsolete and worthless. Like I said, if the new stuff is better we will get it, if the old stuff is better why come out with new. The rule just pisses people off and keeps people from racing. It makes no sense to me why he would want to make his supporter mad. The changing over to the new stuff would take care of itself and the money would follow. What would you think if SE said you can no longer run an 05 car you need to get a new one by August 15, 2011?

First off the Bilstiens are a better shock, and as far as the bodies go we were told that at the beginning of the 09 season that they would not be good in 11 be glad it's not a modified body that would cost 3 times aa much.It seems no matter what Rich does somebody's not happy,it goes back to the old saying your never going to make everybody happy.

You didn't answer the two questions. Why is it necessary to make the old stuff illegal and worthless and what would you think if he told you you needed a new car, of coarse with plenty of notice? Another Question is, where you told tire shocks or bodies would be no good after a certain date when you bought them? I think your right, you are never going to make everyone happy. But I don't think he is making anyone happy except for maybe himself.

If you want to know why ask Rich, but no matter what he say's you and the other complainers are not going to be happy. The way I look at it,it is what it is, your not going to change it by complaining about it.I'm not saying I'm happy about some of the rules but pregnant doging about it does'nt help.So I just suck it up and do what I have do to go racing.

For years everyone complained, how the afcos were junk, leaking new in the box etc. So Tobias tried to do a deal with Proshock which fell through, He then made a deal with bilstein, He had them marked so that they only availabale from speedway, To do this he probably had to commit to a large and regular purchase. He just ran a special for November to get them out at a better price. The 1051 Afcos can be bought anywhere, so if you dont phase them out, some will be buying them 10 years from now, as for the bodies , if you get a new body when it comes out, it is good for 6 years, if it lasts that long you are either very good or not racing. The 08 body is a better body than the earlier ones, and I think most people like to see something new now and then. Rich is out there working every day, hes not out on his yaucht with the millions rolling in on slingshots. Without speedway ent. this division will dissapear in a few years. I think they are doing a good job and are giving long term notice to changes, Ray Nemeth

I have dealt with Bilstein shocks quite a bit in years past and they are certainly top quality. In fact its surprising they are around the same price as the Afcos considering how junky they are. I did not know that the Afco could be purchased anywhere so it makes sense that he is mandating the Bilsteins (or atleast 2 per car for now). We are running an 08 body so that is certainly no immediate concern. And our car sat for a few years before we bought it so it had the silver seals all last year so it will be freshened this winter so that will be a non issue also. The tires would eventually run out anyway so I can't see a reason to ban the 8.50 Carlisles. But whatever, the Duro seems to be pretty awesome for us. Oh, slinger7, who compared a slinger body to a modified body - that just isn't comparing apples to apples. I wish I had the money to race a modified though, I wouldn't be worrying about lawnmower engines and golf cart tires LOL
