I see alot of people whining about the price of this and that here. What price do you put on safety? I have witnessed people DIE in a racecar and also people get paralysed in a racecar. I have seen people get burned in a racecar because the 2 layers suit was just too expensive. So, what value do you put on safety? With all of the grease I see on firesuits in the pit areas and all of the holes in suits and people driving with sneakers on, think about it people, your not safe , your lucky! If this was a sanctioned event anywhere else in the country you would not be able to compete under those circumstances. And dont people take pride in having a nice looking body on the car and a good looking lettering job? Racing is an expensive hobby , bottom line !

Seriously, I see some suits out there that have been used so long they are worn thin! As far as a nice body goes...it's nice when its new but until its bad enough where it doesn't stay on the car anymore its not getting replaced. With some of the teenagers we race with replacing a body often isn't worth it. Don't get me wrong, they're mostly good kids but they're still kids.

Any track you race at has its hammerheads... whether they are 10 or 80... we all get angry over it but so be it... A body wont kill alot of people... i just dont see why they need to be replaced every other year in most cases... I said the fact he needs to weed out the dangerous cars... which i stand by. however there are more morons out there with no brakes then there are with brakes anymore.. i think SE needs to worry about safety over looks..

Yeah you're right Kurt, back in 1/4 midgets we used to have a thing where you would have to come around the track at race speed and stop in a certaIn distance. You probably recall a certain guy at the 2nd to last points race at Borgers that slammed you out of the way and then came and did the same to us. Then after the race claimed he had no brakes! Its like ok so you have no brakes but you are intentionally racing in a way that is going to require braking or else hit someone.

Now i guess i need to make a comment. Whatever has been made legal or has been produced for a slingshot should always be legal. Last year Rich said all 850's would be illegal as of 2010. ..Slingerweek came and there were no 950's to be bought, all the Florida guys had to run 850's or sawtooths...(1) 950 tire came to Florida. ...This year the Duro came....cant get any...unavailible everywhere...several of us bought some... the other racers were mad that there was not any to be found....There is plenty of old body cars in Florida even some tin cap seals and after this season people have a truck load of 850 tires and i'm supposed to tell everyone that they need something else for 2011....the guys already told me ....if i cant run what i bought already ...sorry i wont be racing....Shipping is already an issue with the motors....Florida has been hit real bad by the housing market and the race tracks are running with 17..entries total at some tracks...not 17 slingshots.......17 total combined cars for the night....the slingshots have grown and i think it was the only class to grow in Florida.....The racers want to try to stay legal for any visitors but lets face it... 700.00 new body 160.00 shocks tires??? registration 100.00 How is this going to be affordable? i cant even afford it and I GUESS my car will sit in the garage this year until i can.....even though it is capable of going to the track right now.. It makes more sense to run the car and break things then buy the parts..i just dont want an email complaining where are all the cars at when the season starts
Like i said if it was sold on the car or made legal it should be legal....you have guys trying to be legal and its just getting to hard to comply
The reason why i got out of karting was because wka mandated burris tires...ok the next year it was maxxis tires for one class then vegas for the other ....ok then it was an overhead valve animal motor....ok.......then they lost all participation because the changes and cost got out of hand .....so i solved the problem and stayed home
i have the red seals (got last year) i have the new body i'll buy the new shocks IM KEEPING THE 850"S...<been down that road
but there is at least 15 racers in Florida that cant or wont comply because of not needing these rules(new parts) or not being able to afford the new parts
if my helmet is out dated i will buy one ...if my belts are out dated i will buy one.....and i can make others buy them also.....but new shocks...why? their 2 years old....what safety reason do i need new shocks...if i get beat on the old ones maybe i'll buy the new ones
i hope speedway looks at this post and considers what may happen to the class in different areas besides PA if an affordable solution cant be found
after the problems last year...and left for me to worry about Slingerweek rules are: 850 legal 950 legal duro legal 4 afcos ok old body is ok red seals are mandatory all other rules apply
i want everyone to know they are welcome to Florida this year!!! we need the racers down here.....and more importantly i need the ones already here to come out and race
i think the slingshot class is a great class and Rich is a great builder...but some rules need to be looked at before the start of 2011

Let me also say that my car will be legal for the 2011 rules and will be at the tracks as soon as those parts are on the car , reguardless of what the rules are so i can set an example to others.....i felt i needed to speak for others who voice their opinion to me

I agree! bought two new afcos last year that have not been put on til the rebuild of my slinger. now i need to get four new shocks. that is why i also got out of the karts. tires for each track and certin things for each one. hopefully they come up with what they are doing soon so we know what to do and what we need.

Can,t agree with Florida more, that sounds like real sensible rules. SE needs to realize it's hurting the tracks and the car owners and drivers with these rules. We didn't go to some tour races and some tracks because we didn't have red seals or registration, although our motors where checked at Borgers as well as there checked anywhere. Finally got the seals for West End. I know we stayed away from Reading , Kutztown and shellhammers which we would have loved to run. We just could not justify the extra expense in these tight times.

I can't agree with you more. Things from SE are getting out of control. It's no longer affordable racing. What's next maybe 950's on the front saw it at Part Peddler's in NY last week.

Maybe next year you'll have to run the old style original slinger body and anything newer than 05 will be illegal LOL.

Maybe they will sign a contract with Honda and make us all get rid of our V-Twin Briggs and Stratton engines.

Matt, that actually sounds more like something that would really happen. They may even give you $250 back for your briggs engine IF ITS STILL IN USABLE CONDITION. LOL
