Would you guys also consider doing this on some Saturday nights for those of us that can't make Fridays for the most part?
The Jrs have put on a heck of a show each week and they are a great group of kids. Would love to see a 15 car Saturday turnout for a cash race!
Continued THANKS to the management team at Borgers for giving us a great place to race!

I think all the junior races should have a cash payout just like the senior. The juniors pay just as much to race and probably bring more to gate in the way of family and Friends, a senior may come to the races by himself. As far as the reason it may make them a professional many of the senior and micro racers are the same age and you can give them the choice of a trophy if thats a problem. We have enough 2nd and 3rd place trophies( never enough firsts) and would rather have the money to help pay expenses. Thanks; just my opinion, how do other people feel?

I think the trophy thing is aimed at kids to keep them interested in racing. Think about it.. a 10-13yo kid is more likely to feel a sense of accomplishment if given a trophy for a race finish that they can show their family/friends rather than a $10 bill.

At a certin age kids can't be paid for competeing in events or something like that because of school sports and not getting paid. There is some rule like that not 100% sure of how it is writen and worded but it basicaly means that.

well sort of Darin, If a kid excepts prize money for competition it will exempt him from getting any kind of scholarship money and may prevent him from being accepted into any colleges or even prevent him from getting into the NFL MLB NBA or even Auto racing. Trophies and gift certificates are the only way. Just think "your kid just got offered a scholarship to a college, then someones kid or parent rats you out because you accepted money (why did they rat you out you ask? because you beat him or took him out or just down right jealousy" Keep it the way it is before you destroy a kids future. Just my opinion but it is true. It is a rule I remember reading it somewhere and I just heard about it again a few months ago, its terrible because it cost money to run younger divisions too.

Will you explain to me how come it's ok for a senior slingshot driver that's only 12 or 13 years old to except money and it's not ok for a junior. Lets make some sense here.

Its not difficult to understand - competitive awards and NCAA Scholarships dont mix. Why I dont know, but I do know this if a person under the age of 18 (minor) receives a monetary award for competition it is deemed to null and void any contractual obligations a team or league may have with the individual. The best way around this is the parent or guardian register the car and receive any monetary awards in their name. Stipulations for scholarships and grants are stiff, so why bother making a big deal out of this and move on. The part I dont understand is a child will be able to look at their trophy for the rest of their life, they dont need parents causing a comotion over a few dollars and MAYBE putting their childs future in jeopardy. No junior slinger and or NO kart teams have ever been paid in the history of karting unless professional. If your looking to get paid work a deal with the sponsors as a sort of scolarship deal. Again we can go on and on about this with NO answer, why change something that already works!! Remeber this except the money and take the chance. But if and when it happens dont say you didnt know.

If this is so and I'm sure to some extent it is. Then the parents of younger drivers in the senior and micro divisions should be careful not to be caught in the same predicament.

I don't see where this is even an issue. I would assume the car can not be registered in any person's name that is under the age of 18. The car is registered in the adult's name end of story. The child does not accept or sign for the award. The IRS 1099 form does not get issued in the child's name. Ratting on somone is one thing but proving it is an altogether different ballgame. Another case of someone trying to do something positive for the racers and some people must do whatever they can to put it down.

These rules are right, but as Bob put have the owner or dad sign for the money and there is no issue, the owner or dad can do with it what he likes, back into the car, give to his child as a allowance and so on and wirth.
