12 TQ’s, 30 AllStar Slingshots, 11 Junior Slingshots Light Up The Night At One Of Borgers Speedway’s Best Nights Of Racing.
85 racecars jammed the Borgers pit area providing our best crowd of the season with a spectacular night of racing. OctoberFest round 4 and Checkered Flag Fan club night awarded feature winners that are CFFC members with one of their sought after CFFC jackets.
For Hoosier Racing Tires TQ/600 Sprint feature winner Mike Tidaback it was a very emotional scene in victory lane. One of Mike’s dreams was to win a Checkered Flag Fan Club jacket which his father Bob had won manyh years ago and tonight that dream came true. As the green flag dropped it was Pat VanVarick, Mike Tidaback, and Bobby Butler to turn one. Butler moved into second on lap five as VanVarick dropped from the race with mechanical problems. Tidaback took over the lead on lap six with Geoffrey Sutton moving into second spot a lap later. A restart a lap later found Rob Vivona in third. With Sutton knocking on Tidaback’s door Tidaback drove a “Masterful” race taking the win followed by Sutton, Vivona, Butler, and Kurt Bettler. The ageless Bing Metz who had a good run going for him ran a career best 10.9 second lap.
30 AllStar Slingshots ran two rounds of heats to lock in the 24 car starting field. Larry Raifsnider, Mark Sensenig, and Chris Kutz led the thundering herd to turn one with Kurtz second out of turn two. Kurt Bettler fell into fourth and Taylor Eccles fifth on a lap three restart. Bettler moved into third on lap seven as Kurtz turned up the steam on Railsnider for the lead. Kurtz charged into the lead on lap ten with Kyle Herve on the move. Herve was fourth on lap eighteen and third by lap twenty four. With Kurtz setting a blistering pace he seemed destined to break his second place finish jinx heading for victory lane in the No Dirt Nationals. With Raifsnider on Kurtz’s rear bumper disaster struck with five laps to go when Kutz’s machine failed to go giving Raifsnider the lead. Dylan Hoch jumped into second and Danny Buccafusca got by for third with Kurtz holding on for fourth edging out Bettler. So close but njo cigars for a very disappointed Chris Kurtz.
What more can be said other then Damon Paul is headed for a very bright future in the game of motorsports? Paul, the personable young man with a contagious smile, for the third time in as many races as he ran in Borgers OctoberFest once again found his place in victory lane. Paul, Gavin Santeee, and Dillon Stevers led the eleven Junior Slingshots to turn one and immediately Paul pulled away from the field. Stevers got by Santee for second coming out of turn two with his sights set on Paul. Tyler Peet moved to fourth with Andrew Kreis fifth on lap seven, Santee taking very well to the Borgers asphalt chased Stevers but did not have quite enough to make the pass for second. Paul turning 12.433 lap times equivalent to the AllStars took the win followed by Stevers with 12.499, Santee with 12.641 his best lap. Peet was fourth with Kreis fifth.
Last week Chris Kurtz piloted the Mary Gray owned 33 Stage One Modified to victory and this week it was Mark’s regular driver Dylan Martin to do the same. Matin batttled Joel Smith the entire distance with Martin taking the win followed by Smith, Nevin George, and Frank Yankowski.
Tyler Stangler took the Pro 4 win over Kenny Hoover.
Special thanks to Debbie Hamm and Bobby Stull of the Checkered Flag Fan Club who awarded all feature winners that are members of the Checkered Flag fan Club with their beautiful jackets.
