Vivona Tops In TQ/600 Sprints In Borgers OctoberFest Round Three. Bettler Bags The Big Slingshot Bucks. Kurtz, Stevers, and Stangle First Time Winners.
It has been a while but tonight Rob Vivona was back in winning form taking the Hoosier Racing Tires TQ/600 Sprints feature event on a cold and damp Saturday evening. Vivona piloted the Pat VanVarick, Bangor Steel entry to his first win of the 2014 racing season at Borgers. The action was hot and furious as Geoffrey Sutton, Vivona, and Anthony Sesely blasted into turn one. Sutton’s lead was to be short lived as Vivona wasted no time taking over the top spot on lap three. Lap eight Mike Tidaback and Larry Hoagland joined the race for the lead. As the laps wound down it was anyone’s guess what the outcome would be as Kurt Bettler also join the hunt for the top spot. Vivona was relentless holding off Sutton for the win followed by Sesely, Tidaback, Hoagland, and Bettler.
Five hundred big ones were on the line for the AllStar slingshots and Kurt Bettler who is considered the Master Of OctoberFest the past few season had his sights set on the huge check that carried $500. It was Bettler, Al Hauptman, and Kyle Herve to turn one as Bettler opened an early lead. Anthony Raisner who has been having a fantastic season at Borgers moved into fourth on lap eight. As Bettler was determined not to be caught a torrid battle emerged for second place with Hauptman, Herve, and Raisner. As the battle for second grew more intense with each passing lap Chris Kurtz joined the hunt and made his presence known. On lap sixteen Herve made the move to second as a crash on the backstretch moved Hauptman back a few spots and Kurtz to the infield. . On the lap eighteen restart Bettler had his hands full with Herve and Amanda Conroy moved to fourth at the half way mark. In the closing laps Conroy moved to third with Taylor Eccles taking over fourth. Nick Shaw who had been advancing steadily through the pack took over fifth with Mike Lapicki in sixth. With that high paycheck in mind Bettler charged to victory lane followed by Herve, Conroy, Eccles, Shaw, and Lapicki.
Dillon Stevers held off Shelby McLaughlin to take the Junior Slingshot win.
Chris Kurtz Jr. got behind the wheel of the Mark Gray owned 33 Stage one Modified and it proved to be a good choice of a driver replacing Dylan Martin for the evening. Kurtz held of a hard charging Joel Smith taking the win. Amy Howell was third.
The first appearance of the Pro 4’s found Tyler Stangle in victory lane followed by Dave Chapman and Tiffany Wambold.
