Larry Hoagland Wins Borgers TQ/Asphalt 600 Sprints. Taylor Eccles Owns Real Estate In Borgers Victory Lane.
Everyone knew it was only a matter of time until Larry Hoagland would wheel the Fred Bitner 54 to Borgers Speedway victory lane and tonight that became reality. In Hoosier Racing Tires TQ/Asphalt 600 Sprints their efforts paid off in a very popular Borgers Speedway victory.
It was Pat VanVarick, Geoffrey Sutton, and Larry Hoagland to turn one and a three car battle for the lead immediately developed. As VanVarick and Sutton battled for the lead Hoagland waited patiently within striking distance of the two leaders to make a mistake. Patience paid off as VanVarick and Sutton made contact sending Sutton in a series off violent flips down the front straightaway with three laps to go. On the restart Austin Fehr took chase on Hoagland but did not have enough to catch the high flying orange 54. Larry Hoagland had won his first Borgers AllStar TQ/Asphalt 600 feature followed by Fehr, Steve Boland, and Bing Metz. As the fans cheered one of the most popular wins this season at Borgers Speedway Larry’s wife Coralee and Fred Bitner joined in the happy celebration.
Mark Janisch, father of TQ Superstar Matt Janisch, who is an important part of the Janisch team had never been a car owner. Mark had raced stock cars at Nazareth and Flemington in the 70’s and 80’s had always wanted to be a car owner so he made a trade for a TQ and with his engineering expertise made some changes and got the car back in top racing form. He made his debut tonight and what makes this very unique is he chose Bing Metz to drive the car. Bing was a TQ star at the defunct Pine Brook Speedway and had not driven on a regular basis since the 1980’s. You might call Bing a Senior Citizen but he drove the wheels off that car showing the youngsters that he still has what it takes to wheel a racecar. Hpefully we will be seeing this team on a regular basis for the remainder of the season.
Rumor has it that Borgers Speedway will rename victory lane Taylor Eccles victory lane as he seems to have made a permanent home there. Eccles once again added to his win total by winning the AllStar Slingshot feature event. Eccles started on the pole and never look back as Mike Lapicki took chase. Ryan Lacoe started to battle third place Chris Kutz but his day would end almost before it began. Lacoe who is second to Eccles in season points retired with mechanical problems before one lap was completed. On the restart it was Eccles, Lapicki, Kurtz but now Eddie Reeder was making his presence known moving into fourth with Jim Laubach trailing on lap two. Lap nineteen Johnny Bush got by Laubach for fifth with Reeder putting the pressure on Kurtz for third. Lap twenty four Kurtz pulled to the infield as Reeder took over third. Lap twenty five Ken Reeder blew a motor bringing out the red for oil on the racetrack. On the restart it was Eccles, Lapicki, and Eddie Reeder. As the laps wound down Eccles was not to be caught taking win number eight. Lapicki was second followed by Eddie Reeder, Johnny Bush, and Jim Laubach. A very impressive run for Eddie Reeder who has come a long way this season. Eccles, Lapicki, and Reeder were all running within one tenth of a second with each other.
