For all who couldn't attend:
Basically what I got out of the meeting is... and I quote from RTs mouth after his 30 minute rant about his racing career was.... I'm in business to make money. After reading what I got out of this meeting you can determine for yourself what the main agenda is. If you read this RT and this isn't how you planned on making your point then let your fingers do the talking.
Numerous people had brought to his attention that "If it ain't broke DONT FIX IT!!"
Most coming from the people that have supported this division from the beginning or for a decade or more!!
Look take it for what it is. I'm not hiding behind a screen name. You all know who I am. You hate me or you like me. I don't care. I do know this I gained alot of repect over the years for speaking my mind and speaking for others. Respect me on the track or off, for the racing or for the help. Bottom line is this is total BS and this will be another nail in the coffin of an awesome division. Ridiculous!!
But so it seems as it seemed in the past, lets fix it anyway. After speaking with numerous attendees, it doesn't matter what the "bread and butter" thinks its what RT thinks. EVERYONE there determined It doesn't matter what the owner/drivers think. The aluminum flywheel is or will be under testing by Briggs and Stratton. The way it was explained is that if a driver weighs 250lbs they will be allowed to run the flywheel if Briggs deems to be appropriate. In my opinion if I start to get smoked by a team that is running an aluminum flywheel and I don't weigh 250lbs, you can bet I'm bolting enough weight to the car to be able to run it and be legal. Or I am going to stuff my face to gain some weight. (okay that was to the extreme but you see where I'm going..) Hence the added cost is really not that affordable is it? (upwards of about $250.00.) On top of it it is an added 5hp? And on top of that ask yourself this. If the Vanguard motor was engineered to run a steel flywheel, what kind of wear and tear on other stock parts OR what weakest link is going to let go if this aluminum flywheel is allowed? So are you telling me your going to have to get a different crank - cam valve to run this for balance purposes? OH there's another $1000.00 to worry about! The weight advantage on bigger tracks like Lindas, Grandview, Paradise with this flywheel will be incredible! No matter what you weigh and get up to speed. Heres a solution-- if your overweight by 50 lbs or more maybe you can be scored differently and No extra costs to the WHOLE FRIKN division! Maybe that isn't the answer but I'm sure collectively an answer can be achieved without adding another cost for most that are barely making ends meet and trying to race with whatever is left in their monthly income to make their child or own dreams come true! The tires are going to be a different brand with Speedway Entertainment stamp on it.(Imagine that). I can remember when we ran the 650s and 850s. That was competition. Change the tires because the new bodies looked funny? Hahah good one. Stop changing the bodies and costing teams an extra $800.00 every couple of years, get another company to mold a few thousand tires like the 650 and 850 so the shows arent follow the leader. Start there!! Again the third sentence was and I quote" Im in business to make money" HMMM Sorry RT you know I speak it as it is. The drivers compartment adjuster was NOT explained enough to where anyone could get a inkling of a clue what it was going to be. In other words the meeting was totally useless. All 2 hrs of it. Any questions or arguments that where brought up where NOT answered and or where steered around. The bottom line is The Bread and Butter of this division has no say. In his own words , this is his division and he makes the calls. As far as I am concerned any "new" business will be discouraged from the accusation of and I quote " too bad if they cant figure out how to run competitively> Seems to me the political views have not changed therefore its time for people to start thinking other means of fun. I Will say this... if I had the financial means I would start an outlaw division and LISTEN to the people who paid my bills and or to cover the losses of the other division I tried starting, that is going no where in a hurry.!!! In my opinion if it was safety changes I would have to agree with whatever changes. ITS NOT!! WHY TRY TO FIX SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL FOR ALL THESE YEARS!
Mandate HANS devices if you want to make changes. You cant put a price on safety. How do you mandate it you ask. Easy..... If you plan to run the tours or Nationals it is required.. Anyone who runs the tours Speedweeks or Nationals and wants to be considered for said championships will get and extra 50 points toward their respective positions if a HANS is worn. By the end of the year all teams will own a HANS. I'm sure a lot of teams would rather spend the money on this device than being able to adjust a car during a 100 lap race (which I only know of one race that is 100 laps, the rest are average of 25) or an aluminum flywheel to be more competitive. There's easier ways to help the people who are "big boned" than to come up with a way to cash in on their disadvantage.
