West End Fair Nationals 2011 Presented by Borgers Speedway.
On a cold, snowy, winter night just after New Years 2009 three former racecar drivers got together in a garage near Gilbert, Pa. with a dream. A dream that is unheard of in this day and age. Bring auto racing to a track that had never seen high powered racing machines larger then quarter midgets. In the 21st. Century you just do not open a new racetrack. With hard work and determination Steve Heckman, Rich Raidline, and Richie Smith made every red blooded American Racer’s dream come true and the West End Fair Nationals was born.
All Dirt Track Auto Racing in the USA had it’s roots in the dirt ovals of the County and State Fairs that dotted the countryside. Many of the stars of Indianapolis, Daytona, and most of the other major racetracks got their start in the hot, dusty summer nights at the local Fairs. What location could be better suited then the West End Fair which in it’s 90th year is the longest running Fair in the United States?
The names Ryan Smith, Mike Glass, Joel Smith, Steve Walters, Cody Kline, Kyle Rohner, and Tim Buckwalter are etched in the history books as West End Fair Nationals champions. Will these drivers repeat this year or will new names be added to the record books? While Ryan Smith has won in 270 and 600 Sprints there has never been a repeat winner in each division.
The third running of the West End Fair Nationals will take place Monday August 29 at the 90th Annual West End Fair in Gilbert, Pa. . Management hopes the move to a Monday evening will benefit everyone involved. The move from mid week should help, drivers, crews, and fans who can make better plans for a long weekend. It will also provide a “Virgin Racetrack” which will not have debris from the demolition derbies or a saturated surface.
Four divisions of racing will see action with the 270 Sprints, Modifieds, AllStar Slingshots, and Wingless 600 Sprints.
AllStar Slingshots will be racing in an AllStar Super National event.
Modified class will consist of Stage One Modifieds and 600 Sportsman.
270 Sprints, Modifieds, and Slingshots will run a heat format.
Wingless 600 Sprints will compete in a “Go Or Go Home” format. Go Or Go Home=Each driver will get one round of practice and then compete in a 6 lap “Round Robin” qualifying event. Drivers will compete against the clock and each driver’s single best lap will count towards the A Main with the top 22 qualifying and the rest will go home.
There will be two provisionals to make up the 24 car field. Provisional number 1 will go to the highest finishing driver from the 2010 West End Fair Wingless 600 event that has not qualified through time trials. Provisional number 2 will be a past 600 Sprint champion’s provisional from one of the following tracks Borgers, Hamlin, Lindas, and Kutztown. We will start with 2010 and work our way backwards. In others words if the Borgers Champion is already qualified it would go to the Hamlin Champion. If the Hamlin Champion is qualified it would go to the Lindas Champion. If the Lindas Champion is qualified it would go to the Kutztown Champion.
A Main line-up will be straight up on time trials with a top invert to be determined.
Pre-registration (postmarked by August 22nd.) will be $75 for 270 Sprints, Modifieds, and Slingshots. After August 22nd. or at the event will be $100. Wingless 600 Sprints by August 22nd will be $50 and after Augsut 22 or at the event $75.
270 Sprints, Modifieds, and Allstar Slingshots will pay $1000 to win and $100 to take the green plus sponsorship awards based on a 50 car count.
Wingless 600 Sprints $500 to win plus sponsorship awards based on a 30 car count limited to 40 entries.
Pit Passes $25, which includes admission to the 90th Annual West End Fair.
Parking will be on a first come first serve basis with parking gates opening at 12:00 p.m. noon.
Current event sponsors are Hammer Down Dyno Services, Miller Motorsports Clutches, Lehigh Valley Windustrial, CarQuest Auto Parts (Palmerton Auto Parts/Broadsheadsville Auto Parts), Heckman Sportswear, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, AKTPA.
