Hamlin, PA - 2011 Hamlin Speedway Schedule Filled With Exciting Events
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Prepped and geared for a great new season ahead, the work continues to move forward with the Hamlin Speedway offering the initial Bug Day at the speedway scheduled for April 9th with a time slot of 2 to 6 PM and the gates opening at 1 PM. The premier racing attraction in the Poconos has detailed an exciting season ahead with the new 2011 racing schedule now in place and the season opener set to kick-off on April 16th. The opener will mark the start of the point races at the speedway and it is essential for all competitors with aspirations for a track title to be ready to go the distance with each night of racing offered at the speedway. Not only will be the points be of the utmost importance but the Hamlin Speedway offers some of the best payouts available among the small division race tracks and some of the drivers take advantage of the fact they are eligible to compete in additional divisions at the speedway in hopes of fattening their wallets by the end of each race day.
With seven phenomenal divisions returning to the speedway to pick up where they left off from a season ago, the excitement level looms large with the drivers and owners now spending more time in their shops to button up the equipment in preparation for the racing wars to begin. The spectacular 2010 season was merely a taste of what the exciting new season will bring to the speedway as much shuffling within the divisions during the off-season will find plenty of new faces in new hot rods once the first green flag is thrown for the season. The 2011 season at Hamlin will be the sixth year in sequence with the Smith Family at the helm and another record breaking campaign is expected to benchmark the great racing on the one fifth mile raceway at the season's end.
The first special event of the season will be held on April 30th as the Wingless 600's are showcased in a Round Robin qualifying affair that will find $750.00 awaiting the winner of the feature event sponsored by dickie Keiper's Racing Supplies. May 7th will find the winged warriors of the 270 Micro division going to war with another Round Robin qualifying event and $750.00 waiting in the winner's circle for the victor and again sponsored by dickie Keiper's Racing Supplies. May 14th will find the first special event for the Slingshot division as the B&S Mid-Atlantic Gold Slingshot Tour rides into town with a twin heat format and $500.00 to win based on a 24-car count. May 28th will find the rejuvenated Super Slingers racing for a $350.00 to win purse based on the 24- car count.
The Speedway will rock and roll into the summer months with the fifth edition of the "Spring Into Summer Sizzler" and picnic. June 3rd and 4th are earmarked on the calendar for the two day race weekend and will once again be sponsored by dickie Keiper's Racing Supplies. June 4th will mark the first appearance of the season by the 600 Pro Series and the normally winged division of racing will shed their wings for the occasion to duke it out with the best drivers the Hamlin Speedway can offer. Last year in the lone appearance of the series, hot shoe Ryan Greth blasted to the front early on in the event and then held off a trio of talented racers to claim the exciting win. With the series growing in popularity, the Pennsylvania based race series will see action at five tracks in 2011, with Hamlin, Middleford, Kutztown, Linda's and Clyde Martin (LANCO) Speedways each seeing two events during the season.
June 11th at the speedway brings back the popular NASCAR Crew Challenge to the speedway. The always entertaining interview and autograph session will highlight the evening as the crew guys take a night off from their crew chores to don their racing suits and helmets and have a go at each other in Slingshot prepared race cars. Last year the visiting sprint car ace Mares Stellfox tried her hand at steering a Slingshot race car and came away having a great time in her first appearance ever in the cars.
The month of July will offer the "Firecracker 100" on the 2nd of the month with $2,000.00 on the line if a 45-car is assembled for the event. Time trials will set the field for the event and B andC mains wil be utilized if necessary. July 9th brings the "Mid Summer Madness" event to the speedway with $1,000.00 on the line for the first wingless 600 Micro that can find the fast way around the 1/5 mile mile speedbowl in an event sponsored by dickie Keiper's Racing Supplies, Tilcon and Walker Plumbing and Heating. The month will close out on July 30th when the B&S Mid-Atlantic Slingshot Tour returns to the Pocono Mountains with Time Trials and a $500.00 prize on the line for the feature winner after 30-laps.
The month of August will bring the second appearance of the NASCAR Crew Challenge to the Hamlin racing scene on August 6th. The event will prove to bring the season bragging rights to the lucky NASCAR combatant who can figure out the quick way around the clay kicking facility. August 13th will bring the second appearance of the 600 Pro Series back to the speedway. With many of the events having been run when the series come back to town, the drivers will have to be on their A-Game to snatch a victory to propel them further in the point series. August 27th will close out the month at Hamlin as the "Stars of Tomorrow" are showcased in a 25-lap shootout that will find the winner corralling $200.00 when the checkered flag falls.
The still to be named and decided upon Labor Day show will open up the month of September on the 3rd. The following week will be the fifth edition of the Micro Mountain Nationals with $1,000.00 on the line for the winner of each of the micro divisions at the speedway. Time trials in a round robin format will determine the starting field for both events and Walker Plumbing and Heating will provide the sponsorship for the 600 Micro division. The final event of the exciting 2011 schedule will find the Slingshot Nationals 50 Tour with another healthy $1,000.00 on the line for the winner and to compliment the event will be the Junior Slingshot National Tour event.
The Smith Family and staff invite everyone to come out and enjoy an affordable yet exciting night of racing every Saturday evening when the Pocono Mountains come alive to the sound of race cars going side by side and more when the green flag drops.
