Hamlin, PA – Heavy Rains Ended The 5/29 Night Of Racing At Hamlin Speedway
Despite the efforts of track management and the pure desire of the 133 race teams that traveled to Hamlin on Saturday night – heavy rains came following the makeup feature for the Wingless 600s and junior slingshot heats that forced the cancellation of the night.
With a packed house of spectators and fans – the makeup feature from May 8th took to the track with 21 cars. From the drop of the green flag – the #10 of Mark Gilmore took the lead from the outside pole and lead to the checkered flag. Fourth place starter #55b of Bobby Butler raced to finish 2nd with the #1g of Joseph Smith in 3rd. Coming from the 11th starting spot – the #2 of Brittany Tresch earned a 4th finish with the #23c of Bill Clark in 5th. Rounding out the top 10 were the #57 Gary Berkenstock 6th, #94x Shannon Smith 7th, #19 Keith McIntyre 8th, #94 Matt Mountz 9th, and #24h Jonathan Hull 10th.
The May 8th feature “270cc Micro Special $750 To Win” makeup has been postponed until June 26th. The junior slingshot feature from 5/29 will be made up this coming Friday June 4th.
Coming up this Fri 6/4 & Sat 6/5 is the "Spring Into Summer Sizzler V" & Picnic! Friday June 4th schedule – All divisions racing with time trials and features. The gates open at 4PM, registration 4:30-6:30, and warm Ups 7pm. The junior slingshot feature from 5/29 will be run first prior to Friday night’s event. The micros are racing non-points plus payouts. The format will be time trials & features with camping (no hookups), Picnic, and bonfire at the conclusion of the night. The 2-day pit pass will cost $30 and includes the picnic with single day pass at $20. The usual registration fees apply for both days with 2 full racing programs and payouts.
Saturday June 5th schedule – All divisions racing with time trials and extended features. Micros will earn double points. The “Nascar Crew Challenge” returns with the crew guys plus a driver or two competing in the “AllStar Slingshots” with an interview and autograph session prior to racing for the fans. Gates open at 1pm with registration 2:30-4:30PM, driver’s meeting at 4:45PM, and warm ups at 5PM.
Both days offer the general admission of adults $8, seniors $4, children under 6 are free. The bonus pack is available for families consisting of 4 general admission tickets plus $20 in food vouchers for $40 (a savings of $12).
The 5/29 rainout will be managed as follows:
•The registration fee's can be used for all classes except the Junior Slingshots until June 19th.
•The bright Yellow Wristbands may be used either June 12th or June 19th. They cannot be used June 4th or 5th, because it's a special show.
•The Junior Slingshots will run the make up feature from 5/29 next Friday, June 4th, and will be the first scheduled event.
•The 270cc Micro's Make Up race from 5/8 that was scheduled to run on 5/29 will run on June 26th.
